Technology-Enhanced Language Teaching and Learning in Practice

December 1, 2:30pm - 3:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Moore Hall 258

This session features projects led by faculty specialist Dr. Naiyi Xie Fincham at the Center for Language & Technology (CLT) that demonstrate research-informed applications of emerging technologies in language learning and teaching. The presentation highlights three areas of work: 1) H5P-creating engaging instructional materials and activities using the interactive content authoring tool H5P (now available in Lamakū) 2) Immersive Virtual Reality-using immersive virtual reality to support students practicing public speaking skills 3) Generative-AI Avatar-designing a generative AI–powered interactive avatar that guides students through mock job interviews with customized task design and feedback. Through these examples, Dr. Fincham shares lessons learned from designing and implementing these projects and offers practical insights for integrating emerging technologies into language classrooms and beyond.
