ORE Seminar: HOLOKAI with the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Marine Center
October 3, 1:00pm - 2:00pmMānoa Campus, Holmes Hall 243
Definitions of the Hawaiian word "holokai" include "to sail on the sea, to take a sea voyage or cruise". The Hawaii Ocean Learning and Observing K-PhD Academic Integration (HOLOKAI) has recently been launched at the University of Hawaii Marine Center as an educational and workforce development program. This seminar will serve as an opportunity to take a journey, a "holokai" so to speak, and learn about all the potential opportunities that exist at the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Marine Center (ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥MC) for students to learn and grow their careers. While mostly known for operating large research vessels, lesser known assets at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥MC include a Machine Shop (with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining), a pressure test facility, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) support as well as smaller coastal vessels and oceanographic instrumentation.
