Embodied Heritage: Commod Bods and Indian Identities

We invite you to the first event of the WGSS/ES/AMST FALL 2025 Colloquium series: A Talk by Dr. Kasey Jernigan American Studies and Anthropology, University of Virginia Kasey Jernigan is an enrolled citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma whose work focuses on obesity, health and cultural uses of food amongst Oklahoma tribes. In Embodied Heritage: Commod Bods and Indian Identities, Dr. Jernigan will examine the ways shifting patterns of participation in food and nutrition assistance programs have shaped Indigenous foodways; how these foodways are linked to Indigenous bodies and health; and how foodways and bodies are intertwined with structural violence, identity, and heritage.
